Whilst breastfeeding, baby first gets the 'fore milk' which quenches baby's thirst, which is why breast-fed babies before the age of six months rarely need additional fluids. Then baby gets the 'hind milk' which is the 'creme de la creme' packed full of goodness and growth hormones.

So if you are feeding baby on one side on moment, then the next side soon after, baby is getting the majority of your 'fore milk' which can make him/her hungrier more often. It is important that you drain one breast before offering the other - which has the added bonus of keeping up a good milk supply!
